It seems that after a long wait, the trend-led e-tailers are finally realising that not everybody who wants to look good is the same size as the models on their websites. The latest brand to cotton onto this is the fabulously cheap boohoo.com, and the even better news is that nothing in their new plus size range costs over £30!
For a long time, plus-sized women have felt ignored by the fashion industry. They have often felt like they had to compromise their own personal style because of the lack of choices in their size. Recently though, many online retailers have begun to recognise that many plus size women have incredible style and taste, and that this needs to be catered for. Brands like ASOS, New Look, Curvissa and Very have all released wonderful plus sized ranges that are bang on-trend and catwalk led, meaning there is the same diversity and choice that has previously only existed for women sized 8-12.
Fashion bloggers have played a big role in this: when it comes to feminism in fashion, girls need to see women who are sexually and ethnically diverse, challenging society’s standards of beauty. The amount of plus sized fashion bloggers has increased dramatically in recent years, challenging and working with brands to develop clothing that is fashionable and readily available for plus sized women. These women are proving that being stylish and fashionable doesn’t necessarily mean being a tall, skinny ‘goddess’. With boohoo.com being one of the UK’s leading online fashion retailers, to see a plus sized range coming from them is a big step in the right direction.
The boohoo.com range is for women who wear sizes 16-24, and with their catwalk inspired collection they promise that the pieces will flatter any shape. There are plenty of pretty pastels, floral designs, sports luxe styles and on-trend check pieces to choose from. There are also different collections to choose from within the range: Chalk Pastels, which include floral patterns, Revival, which is more grunge and monochrome, and Brights, which focuses on neon items. The collection is “designed to be directional” and “brings you ultra-flattering, fashion-forward pieces for UK sizes 16 to 24.” It doesn’t sound like it gets much better than that! As the collection is new on the site this week, I’ve picked my five favourite items, all of which come with an insanely cheap price tag. If you want to check out the whole range click here.
