Okay, okay, so you may be currently refusing to even imagine those long, dark winter nights or the monotonous downpours of rain or the biting cold wind but we all love a good (any) excuse for a new wardrobe, right? Right. With the Autumnal September air lingering just around the corner, I’m already completely and utterly lusting over all of the AW14 previews and lookbooks and can’t wait to give my wardrobe a new season makeover.
In particular I seem to find myself favouring the 21st century romance trend for the up and coming months ahead. Think luxury craftmanship trimmed with delicate sheers updated with a contemporary sharpness for a modern take on fairytale fantasy. Draping fabrics to create simple silhouettes appears to be the way with shapes for this trend, whilst patterns encompass tapestry, embroidery and embellishments. Layer these delicate prints, intricate details and girly underlayers upon heavier materials of velvet and leather for a grunge twist on the elegant trend.
For affordable student fashion, look for floral bomber jackets, metallic tees and overly fluffy jumpers. Lace trims and scalloped edged skirts and shorts make perfect occasion wear and are great for teaming with tights and chunky boots during the day. Use summer pastels for transitioning from summer to autumn, teaming them with blues, blacks and silvers for that grunge twist on the pursuit of beauty.
