Gone are the days when parkers and wellies were the definition of festival fashion. Why? Because Coachella happens. And our ever growing social networking community – twitter, blogger, instagram – ensures that A-list celebrities at that Californian dream away have more of an impact on the globally noted festival fashion than a saner (not so fashion sane) person, weather prepared in waterproofs.
Glastonbury may be over with for another year, but there are still loads of festivals around the corner this summer. So if you’re one of those lucky people escaping to camp in a muddy field and enjoy the festival buzz, I am incredibly jealous, and here’s my festival must-haves to ensure that you have the time of your life. Festival fashion really has no limits, so be prepared to do what this trend does best and go completely wild and carefree with your wardrobe, and, most of all, have fun with how you look.
Soften up your festival wardrobe with a floral crown this summer. Admittedly, I do have a slight obsession with floral things at the moment, and these go with no exception! They come in such a range of colours and sizes, so if you’re not quite brave enough to sport a bright yellow halo of oversized sunflowers, fear not! Rings of pastel petals like this one are my favourite and they harmonise superbly with the pastel hair trend going on this summer too.
Sticking to the hair department, dry shampoo is an absolute must for surviving a festival. I find that Batiste (available from highstreet drug stores) works the best with working wonders on oily roots and reviving your hair to look as good as new. It’s available in lots of different flavours, ensuring that you can find one that suits your hair best.
The childhood throwback of all throwbacks: the jelly shoes. Honestly, jelly shoes are something that I thought I would never wear ever again after the age of six. However, here I am eleven years later with this luscious pale pink pair. They’re so comfortable and practical, so pretty much perfect for a festival. They’re so easy to style and will look fab with near to everything, whether it be denim shorts or a wide leg playsuit. The jelly material also makes them easy to wash, just by rinsing them under a running tap, making them perfect for a weekend in a swampy field.
Sunglasses are an obvious essential for any summer time event, but ceramic floral ones are the ones. Dainty little flowers, like featured on these, add an element of adorable cuteness to any outfit. Like the floral garlands, they don’t have to be bold, bright or oversized, the daintier the cuter in my opinion!
Totally Coachella-inspired, kimonos are the festival cover up for summer 2014. Either chose a fun and quirky ethnic print (like this one) to liven up a plain cropped tee and shorts, or a subtly sheer plain one, perfect for toning down loud printed tops. They feel very light on your shoulders, making them perfect for the warm weather, however they’re also oversized, making them great for layering over things.
Are you going to any festivals this year? If so, which festival essentials will you be sporting this year?
