Freshers is just around the corner and as stylish individuals, that is call for some seasonal updates. With 9am starts and lots of late nights it’s very easy to fall into the sartorial black hole of hoodies, leggings and trainers but don’t worry, help is at hand. You only need five items to keep you on top of the style stakes. Here’s a list of five back to uni fashion essentials every student needs to keep you on the fashion map whilst remaining practical and comfortable this season.
Long Coat
Zara – £159
Regardless of where in the country you are, a winter coat is pretty essential especially in the usual cold, wet English weather. Not only is it practical in that a good coat will protect you against the elements, but a good coat can also work to instantly elevate any outfit – perfect for those days when black leggings really are all you can manage. Go for, this seasons favourite, the directional maxi coat for a serious style punch or go for the quintessential boyfriend coat for an element of nonchalance. Whatever coat you go for make sure it adds a statement.
Metal Plate Boots
Topshop – £82
Whilst the knee-high boot is the cut of the season, there’s something so comforting about the ankle boot. It’s versatile, comfortable and screams laid-back cool – perfect for lectures and equally at home in a bar or nightclub. From chelsea boots to Doc Martens to last season’s cut out variations, there’s an ankle boot for you. Invest in a good pair of ankle boots to take you through student life.
Dark Wash Tube Pants
River Island – £35
I personally feel like skinny jeans are very flattering, whether you opt for a light acid wash spray on pair or a more relaxed skinny indigo pair, there’s something for everyone. A good pair of jeans can make or break a simple jeans and t-shirt combo, so investing in a solid pair is always a good idea as it’ll make those “I don’t know what to wear” moments a little easier.
Handbag
H&M – £29.99
A solid bag is a no-brainer, where are your books going to go? You need something solid to be able to hold books and a laptop and any other items you may need. So pick this item very wisely as you don’t want something that’s going to break on your way to lectures. For a ladylike and versatile look, go for a structured tote bag or for a more sporty look go for a structured backpack.
Midi Pencil Skirt
ASOS – £18
This last essential is very dependant on your course but a well fitting pair of dress trousers or a pencil skirt can be indispensable for recruiting sessions and job interviews, or any occasion where formal attire is required. They can easily be paired with a chiffon blouse or even a jumper to make you look smart and pulled together. Go for a midi length skirt or some tapered trousers to keep it professional but still young and fresh.
