Home » Reviews » French Connection Review: Part One

A few weeks ago, I was ecstatic to be asked to review some French Connection clothing for SFB. French Connection always has beautiful clothing, but is always a little outside of my price range. I am definitely more of bargain shopper — I love my Primark, H&M and Forever 21 — but over the last year or so, I have really come to appreciate spending a little bit more on pieces that I really, really love. As a student, I obviously don’t have an unlimited budget, but in theory, and as a blogger, it’s probably more lucrative  for me to buy a few pieces that I really love that will last years than to fall for throwaway trends every season.

Choosing the pieces to review was a challenge. There were so many beautiful pieces. As it was mid Summer though, I decided to try to find pieces that would last me well into the autumn season and pieces that were timeless. Something I could still throw on next spring or summer, but something that was still fresh and fun. I ended up going for the Shelby Midi Skirt in Swansdown and Anna Lace Dress in Lake.

I picked these pieces because I’ve wanted to try out the midi skirt trend for a while and I loved the pleated style of this skirt. I imagined it both girly — with a nude tank and nude shoes, and edgy, with lots of leather and stripes. And the Anna Lace Dress I chose simply because I love lace and I loved the gorgeous green-blue colour. However, I did almost get it in red.

This is part one of my review, where I will review the Midi Skirt. In my next post I will review the Lace dress.

First of all, this skirt is just stunning. It’s a kind of creamy off-white, but it is still wearable against white, which I did. It is a really great length — not quite calf-grazing midi, but just above the knee. It’s a little more grown up in length than my usual skirts (which are around mid-thigh) and I felt very sophisticated in it. However, if you have a small waist like me, get a smaller size. I am typical pear shape and usually a size 10, so I got an 8, but I think a 6 would have been better. Also, it’s a little sheer. I wore a striped dress under it as a shirt, but you could definitely see it through the skirt. Sheer is very in for this season and the next so it was totally on trend — but I would definitely need an underskirt.

I decided to go edgy with this skirt, but I am excited to try a girly look or a smart look with it.

This first outfit is a super-girly one. I really love the idea of taking the beautiful feminine nature of the skirt and embracing that. I also love these shoes!! The second outfit is something a little more formal, and definitely work appropriate. The longer length of the skirt means it would be great for an office or work experience.

Look out for Part Two where I review the lace dress!
