With Freshers week 2010 fast approaching, looking good and feeling alert is high on the priority list. With lack of sleep and high consumption of alcohol, this may seem unachievable so I am here help! I have compiled a list of fashion must haves and beauty tips to ensure that youthful glow is maintained.
1. Without sounding too cliché, one of the must have items for freshers week partying is, of course, the little black dress. Simple mathematics of students plus alcohol will give you spillages, and therefore black is perfect for disguising any stains. This put together with black being slimming and skin tone lightening makes the LBD a winner!

2. Gold and Silver are very on trend. If you want to stand out then perhaps try adding a bit of sparkle to your outfit. You could do this by adding a gold or silver bag, or just opting for a glittery dress. Reiss has a perfect glittery bodycon dress, but I do realise that this is rather expensive on a student budget, which is why I will say that many high street stores such as Warehouse and Topshop have very similar pieces, and also offer student discount!

3. As you may have seen, the modern take on the clog has taken the fashion world by storm. Topshop has an excellent clog range, with high and low heels. You will also find some more sandal like and others moving towards an ankle boot. This style looks fabulous with the new season camel shades and is brilliant with a simple shift dress or skater skirt.

4. Now for the health tips. You may have heard the term ‘freshers flu’ before and speaking from experience, it is not a nice thing to catch! So make sure you take lots of vitamin C, or try taking some Echinacea which helps to build the immune system. You can get these from most health stores such as Holland and Barrett.
5. Just before you think I’ve forgotten the obvious drawbacks of hard partying I’d better mention the dreaded hangover. The best way to avoid them is to make sure you drink lots of water before you go to bed. Yes I do realise that when you are drunk, it isn’t something you think about, but at least make sure you eat something.
6. Another problem with sweaty smoky clubs is the effect it has on your skin. You may find your skin quite clogged and blemished as a result. A good way to freshen and brighten yourself up is to steam your face. This opens the pores and gets rid of all the dirt from the night before. It also clears the sinuses and could help with any headaches.
7. Back to Fashion. Clutch bags are very on trend this season, but unfortunately they aren’t very practical when you’re under the influence. Cross body bags are probably your best bet if you don’t fancy losing your iphone or blackberry.
8. Bodycon skirts have been around for a while now, but they’re still hip for autumn. They look effortlessly chic with a floaty top or tunic. They show off your legs without blowing up in the wind and they allow you to bend over without losing too much class. Topshop have done a range of bodycon skirts with a slight skater skirt effect for a more feminine twist, they come in a range of colours and can be worn in the day and evening.
9. Lace tops and dresses are big for autumn 2010. They instantly look feminine and give a fabulous silhouette to any figure. Lace has been on trend for a while now, so don’t be afraid to get out last seasons outfit to save some dosh!
10. Finally, structured tops are fabulously chic right now! With Louis Vuitton showcasing their structured corset like tops this style has swept through the high street. This style looks great with a bodycon or skater skirt. You could also wear it with your favourite jeans and heels.
