Does the thought of starting an A/W wardrobe scare you or excite you? I absolutely love it, in fact my eyes and my ideas are too big for my pay cheque. I love diving into all the big chunky knits and cosy scarves but unfortunately this comes at a cost. If the price of staying trendy and warm frightens you then I’m here to tell you that actually you only need 3 key pieces to start you off.
Once the coat is sorted your half way there! Choose a colour that goes with most of your colour pallet and one you feel will go with most things. It’s also a good idea to invest in a good coat. It might seem great to scrimp at the time, but a more expensive coat will be more durable, longer lasting and can come out year after year. I have picked out a few different styles to give you guys some ideas. First up a parker. Parkers come back in fashion every A/W. They are perfect for a casual on trend look. Next a classic coat that comes in different cuts and colours, this kind of coat can smarten up any outfit. Last but not least is the mac or trench coat. I love this coat for its simplicity, it’s both smart and casual and is super lightweight. It can be folded and put into your handbag when your too warm and brought back out again when the showers start.
Every pair of feet needs a good pair of boots, if your not able to splash out on a few pairs then choose a pair that is comfortable and water proof. Whether you choose flat or heeled boots, choose a pair that you feel you will get your wear out of. Think of outfits you will be wearing over the season and decide which style boots would be more versatile. If your a shoe fanatic like myself then purchase two pairs. A casual flat pair and a more classy heeled pair, this way your kitted out for any occasion. Again I have picked out three pairs for some inspiration. The tall/over the knee boots for you lucky tall girls that are able to pull this look off. A heeled pair for the dressier occasions and the biker boot for a cool rock chick look.
I feel a scarf is essential to finish off the perfect winter look. Being wrapped up in a coat with a scarf tucked in to stop any drafts=perfection. I buy a few scarfs every year so my collection is ever growing but if your new to the trend then I would recommend you stick to neutral colours to start you off, grey, black, cream, tan ect. This way the scarf goes with everything. Sometimes it’s the scarf that makes the outfit, for example a pair of jeans, a basic tee or knit and a tartan scarf. The tartan brings it all together and adds a bit of colour, all whilst being super on trend. Here I’ve picked out a plain Cashmere Scarf, a Knitted Snood and a Tartan Scarf.
With the colder weather fast approaching, keeping warm while looking glam is key. It’s all about layering! It’s very easy to throw on a knit over a t-shirt with a pair of jeans, or a crop jumper over a dress. If your not ready to say goodbye to your favourite mini skirt or denim shorts, it’s fine, wear them with a pair of opaque tights.
A lot of my A/W purchases will be from Zara as it’s my favourite shop, I am in love with my coat and I cannot wait until it’s cold enough to wear.
I also find H&M reasonably priced for knit wear and outer wear, you just have to be very patient and look for the little gems hiding amongst the other clothes. I never thought I’d say this but I also recommend you guys check out your nearest Primark. They are pulling it out of the bag this season! Their coats are to die for and they are half the price of all the other high streets stores. They are also doing exact replicas of knitwear, footwear and accessories from all your favourite shops. If only you could shop online I would have had a million links for you! Primark are on Instagram so check out their upcoming pieces.
I hope my first blog post helps with your A/W wardrobe. Happy shopping xx
