Anyone who knows me well will tell you with fair confidence that Autumn is not my favourite season. I’m more of a Spring/Summer type of girl so upon opening my wardrobe you’re far more likely to see bright or pastel coloured florals, pretty sun dresses and sandals than boots and coats. So one of main wardrobe problems is how to transition into autumn after enjoying the sunny summer weather. Fortunately this year one trend has really taken my fancy, that of burnt colours: rust, wine and mustard in particular.
So this year I decided to take a step back and really look at my wardrobe to see what I can take from my summer wardrobe and wear right through to Autumn. The first item that springs to mind is a midi skirt I bought from Primark for £14 in the middle of Summer and wore it like this:
The colour is very reminiscent of autumn leaves in my opinion, so I’d love to pair it in the autumn with more of these sort of colours. Here is a way that I plan to wear it (using a similar skirt) in the cooler temperatures we’re now facing: a snuggly burgundy jumper, ankle boots and a deer necklace (you can spot deer prints in a lot of shops at the moment!):

Another way to autumn-ize your summer wardrobe is by layering it. There are a lot of basics tops around in autumnal colours at the moment, and I got this one (photo below) from New Look for £5.99. The dress I am wearing over it has been worn throughout summer as a 50s style sun dress, but by putting a burgundy wine coloured top underneath it, it suddenly becomes appropriate for cooler weather. I actually started the day with rust coloured tights on but it got too warm for them, but the yellow socks are also a way to keep your toes warm in the transition time!
A very easy thing to use for autumn layering is a simple jacket in a rust colour, like this one I got from Forever 21 for £22 recently. Here I managed to pair it with another floral dress, this one is over two years old but I also wear during the summer months.
A particularly exciting thing is when you realise just how well these autumnal burnt colours work together, so much so that this jacket and top could actually be paired very well together with a pair of similarly autumnal tights to create a unique look resembling autumn leaves!
