With series six of Britain’s Next Top Model well and truly under way, I have looked at previous winners to see how successful they have been and whether winning the popular reality show really has been “the best thing that’s ever happened to them”.

(Series 1 Winner)
The winner of series one of the show was Lucy Ratcliffe, who signed with Models 1, the prize for winning BNTM. She has since appeared on the cover of Country House magazine in April 2007. She also reappeared on the second series of the show to give advice to the aspiring models, and in late 2009, she was planning on opening an A&G Rock N Roll cashmere store in Knightsbridge with her boyfriend, a designer.

(Series 2 Winner)
The series two winner was Lianna Fowler, who, along with signing for Models 1, has also appeared in numerous magazines throughout Europe, including modelling in Russian Vogue.

(Series 3 Winner)
Series three saw Lauren McAvoy winning, who signed with Models 1 and also Elite Model Management in the USA, as part of the Miami division. She has modelled in various cities worldwide, including Hong Kong, New York City, London, Miami and Barcelona. She also appeared as a model on the popular show Gok’s Fashion Fix, modelling for the high street side one week then the high end side the week after. She also appeared in a Babyliss TV advert.

(Series 4 Winner)
The fourth series winner, Alex Evans, was the first winner to also receive a contract with Max Factor and a feature in Company magazine along with the Models 1 signing. She has since appeared on the cover of Maxim magazine in October 2008, and in May 2010, she fronted a campaign for the make-up line Barry M.

(Series 5 Winner)
The winner of the most recent series was Mecia Simson, who, since her Models 1 signing, Max Factor campaign and Company magazine, has moved to Milan to continue her modelling work there.

(Series 2 Runner-Up)
The most successful contestant on BNTM, however, is Abigail Clancy, runner-up from series 2, who has gone on to model for Maxim, Nuts, OK!, GQ, The Sun, The Daily Star and Sugar, as well as appearing on the cover of FHM four times. She has also had various lingerie contracts, and was even signed by Models 1 in 2010.
Abigail has presented various fashion shows such as The Fashion Show on Living TV, and was the first ex BNTM contestant to appear as a judge, (in series 5). She is in a long term relationship with footballer Peter Crouch, and is currently ranked 10th in FHM’s 100 sexiest women in the world list. Additionally, she presents the fashion slots on daytime TV show This Morning.
With all this in mind, maybe winning a reality TV show isn’t the best thing that could happen to you, or maybe Abby Clancy just had good luck on her side. What do you think?
