When the Topshop Unique Spring/Summer 2014 catwalk show happened last September we were all raring to write our opinions and be the first to see what was going to be on the streets in the sunshine. However, looking back now it seems like a lifetime ago! We have been wrapped up in our fur coats all winter and our beanie hats are still making an appearance! The good news is that March is our ‘Ease into Spring’ month. With the Easter holidays shortly round the corner, a holiday shop may well be on the cards. So what better time to get ahead of the trend and start collating your summer wardrobes.
With London Fashion Week having recently passed, preparing us for Autumn and Winter this year, the Summer trends haven’t really been on the forefront of our minds. So I’m here to give you a little reminder of what to look out for by recapping Topshop Unique S/S ’14 catwalk show.
As Cara Delevingne’s luscious long legs strut their way down the catwalk they are accompanied by khaki and cream, along with some bold patterning. A hexagon type shape with a bold line surrounding, repeating its way down the garments of shorts, dresses and bags. It seems like this summers going to make a statement to remember. The stripes are no longer nautical pinstripe thin, but they’ve become thicker and more random, there is even some incorporation of pattern on pattern, which in the past has been classed as a fashion crime.
With an array of blues, deep purple and khaki, Topshop gives off a tribal, and natural feel to this seasons must wear items. Floaty, straight-down trousers, long oversize shorts with matching upper halves, and oversize dresses are BIG this summer, with countless garments striding down the catwalk. Embellishment has made a comeback this year, with greens, blues and yellows being crafted onto plain white dresses to add something a little extra.
¾ length jumpsuits with turned up bottoms, accompanied by flared leg jumpsuits, gives off an African vibe. You can definitely see yourselves walking down the beach in one of these babies!
There are, as always, some die hard trends making the transition from last years summer to this one. We don’t mind, we didn’t really want to let the Lemon and white vibrancies of our wardrobe disappear anyway. Along with these colours, the big-hit maxi dress is back, but with a skimpier upper half giving the dress a more slick and slender overall finish.
My top two:

Lemon full length jumpsuit

Oversized Dress
Being a big lover of Topshop, there was only one item that I wasn’t so crazy on, and that was the platform white sandal. It pretty much looks like the free slippers you get on Spa days.
Hopefully this has given you a little inspiration of what to keep your eye out for this summer, as these trends start to merge their way onto the highstreets!
Thanks for reading my introductory post 🙂
