It’s the Easter holidays and the weather is starting to signal the imminent onslaught of the summer. Are your jeans starting to feel a little bit uncomfy? Has your jumper jumped off your back and into your handbag? Its time to get ready. Your summer wardrobe wants to come out and play. Set it free. Here are some simple tips to get you started.
1. Cutt-off Denim
No money for a new summer wardrobe? No problem. Just hack up your existing one! Cut-off denim is still in style, so take the opportunity to get scissor happy with your jeans and jackets.

Are you sure you still need sleeves on that denim jacket? No? Getting a little warm? Then hack ‘em off and you’ve got yourself a light and trendy summer body warmer.
Hot legs? Jeans transform so easily into jean-shorts. Just make sure you don’t make one leg longer than the other…
Also, midriffs and crop-tops are in style this season so take a pair of scissors to your old tops too, (if you dare.)
2. Get creative
If you have a needle and thread handy you can take things a step further and start transforming your old clothes into new summery ones. Threadbanger has some great tutorials on reconstructing your old kit. Check out this video on how to turn your big heavy T-shirt into a cool mini halter-dress. So simple – I love it.

3. Style it right
Warm weather in the UK is treacherously unpredictable. It can be so difficult to decide how to dress in the mornings. Scenarios to avoid:
a) Going out in the sun in your summer dress and then freezing your bits off when a chill comes on in the afternoon.
b) Wrapping up when you leave the house in a rainstorm only to be sweating later on when the bloomin’ sun comes out again!
The solution to both problems is an old favourite: layering. For some excellent tips on layering it up, go and have a peep at this cool style blog, The Clothes Horse.

The Clothes Horse Remix
Rebecca’s weekly ‘Saturday Remix’ demonstrates how any item can be worn in many different ways: over, under, in and out…
She shows us how it can be practical (and trendy) to wear a skirt over a dress. A shirt too, if need be. Then when the sun makes his appearance you simply strip back the layers to reveal your light and airy summer frock. Perfect.
4. Get old school
It’s time to be a flower child – the spirit of the 70s festival goer has reawakened in hot trends for the summer, so get your hands on the following items: loud flowery prints, long floaty fabrics, dangly fringe and crochet. Good places to bag them cheap – your parent’s wardrobes, your local charity shop or a trendy vintage vender. Oh, and find some flowers to put in your hair. Try the garden – they’re free.

5. Relax!
The best way to stay cool in the heat is to chill out (apologies for the terrible pun.) And now is the time. Put down your work for a bit and sneak off to lie in the park. Take your shoes off, roll up your sleeves, braid your hair, and develop a hippy attitude. Its so in right now. Ah, summer is on its way…I can’t wait. Have a good break!
