One in four people will experience some kind of mental health problem within the course of one year. Imagine that being you, or someone you love. It’ a nightmare that so many people go through and some see the light at the end of the tunnel and some unfortunately don’t. Recently, we’ve lost the likes of Robin Williams to metal health issues and the amount of people who suffer without even realising it is too high.
Depression and anxiety is a topic that is very close to my heart. Through experiences with anxiety, I know how hard it can be. How you question whether you’ll ever feel happy again – If your brain will ever give you a break and stop coming up with things for you to worry about. It’s a feeling that can only be described as emptiness. But, with the appropriate help and the correct coping strategies, it is possible to get through it, however studies show that one fifth of people suffering with anxiety do nothing to cope with it. That’s too many, and that’s where raising awareness can help so many people.
Bondi Rescue lifeguard Trent Maxwell (Maxi) has set up the clothing brand Bad Max which stands for ‘beating anxiety and depression.’ After dealing with people who look to Bondi Beach to help them with their mental state he felt it was important to spread awareness. Bad Max clothing represents strength and courage. It’s important to know you’re not alone. So I’m urging you please to wear it proud and loud. Go to Bad Max website to get your t shirt. At just £17 including postage you can play a major part in getting the word out. Fashion is fun, but it can also make a difference.
